EP Rinkside 2021-22 Prospect Pool Rankings: No. 6-ranked Montréal Canadiens

Prospect Pool Rankings
The Montreal Canadiens are out of their reset and now in playoff contention mode, but despite a change of cap, two elements keep the team-high in our prospect pool rankings: Its depth and Cole Caufield.

While the team received the lowest grade possible for their selections at the 2021 draft, a high volume of draft picks in previous years gave the organization a ton of potential NHLers, many of which are now getting closer to important roles with the Laval Rockets and the main team.

That being said, Caufield remains the main difference-maker in this prospect pool, the team's best hope at an offensive star.

We value top-end prospects significantly more in these rankings. A player with the potential to feature on the NHL's leaderboard in assists or goals will rocket any farm system up to the top of our list. Those talents are rare, and even more uncommon outside of the top-5 at the draft, but Montreal might have been given one at 15th overall on June 21, 2019.

We only have a small sample size of games to evaluate Caufield's NHL play, but his stint in the playoffs did nothing to temper our high expectations.
