The young Stars in Dallas are dominating offensively and saving their team's season
On Nov. 11th, I wrote rather dourly about the Dallas Stars, highlighting them as one of the most prominently underperforming teams through the first month of the season. Based on their generally uninspiring performance, the criticism felt well earned.
At that time they were 4-6-2, ranking 27th in the league in point percentage. Their minus-12 goal differential was 28th, they were the only team without a single regulation win, and the 13.6 percent of game time for was the second-lowest figure.
It's almost like they read the piece because since then all Dallas has done is win games to completely change the outlook of their season. The Stars are 9-1, having won their last seven consecutive games to tie a franchise record. They've outscored opponents 37-20, having remarkably led for nearly two-thirds of their time on ice in that stretch. That's largely thanks to a ridiculous four-game streak that just ended recently, in which they opened the scoring within 75 seconds of puck drop.
