What We Learned: How far can Alex DeBrincat take the Detroit Red Wings?

Didn't think I'd be writing about the Detroit Red Wings in this space two weeks in a row, but here we are.

They made their big move of the offseason, acquiring Alex DeBrincat for a laughably low price — Dominik Kubalík, Donovan Sebrango (a C prospect, not even in the Wings' top-12 coming into last season), Detroit's choice of first-round picks for next season, and a 2024 fourth-round pick. 

They also don't appear to have committed too many years or dollars to the player, so it's another win. This is the benefit of being basically the only team an unsettled player would sign on with, because you get to look like a genius by twisting the knife that's already in your in-division competition's gut, but don't have to dump all your cap space to retain him.

The question, then, is how much this helps
