Taking Stock: A look at the Vancouver Canucks prospect trade chips ahead of 2024 deadline

NHL

The Vancouver Canucks haven't just exceeded expectations this season – they've shattered them. As of this writing, they sit first in the NHL with a 37-15-6 record, a position so strong that not even their first three-game losing streak of this season could shake them from.

By almost any reasonable measure, this team profiles as not just a contender but perhaps one of the foremost threats to lift the Stanley Cup in June. In fact, MoneyPuck's model has had them sitting in first, at times comfortably, with the highest percentage likelihood of doing precisely that.

The Canucks have manoeuvred accordingly, acting aggressively to get in front of the market with the acquisition of Elias Lindholm from the Calgary Flames just days before the All-Star Game.

If we know anything about a Jim Rutherford team, though, it's that they're not done until he says they're done. And most of the reporting around this team has reflected as much, with many reporters suggesting the Canucks think they have a chance to win it all this year and they're ready to push all their chips in on this roster.

It's hard to imagine a scenario where the Canucks have anymore home run cuts left in them. They parted with this year's first-round pick and moved out one of the five best prospects in their 20th-ranked system.

They just might have enough left in the tank to get on base a couple more times though. These are the prospects you can expect them to put in play for the privilege.
