I think it's cool that the All-Star Game – in any sport, really – can exist in two discrete states of being simultaneously.

On the one hand, it's absolutely sacrosanct. You gotta vote in 15 guys from your favourite team, it's a joke that they put one player from every team on the roster, it's a joke that there won't be a guy from Seattle in the game, it's a pity that no one's trying out there.

On the other, no one cares. No one watches the game. No one could tell you anything that happened in one except the one time everyone tried really hard to keep a fighter from making the game and then winning its MVP award, and also that the guy pointed at the net that one time right before he scored.
