It's easy to joke that the Washington Capitals buying CapFriendly and shutting it down for public use is so that everyone forgets about that new Tom Wilson contract (seven years, $6.5-million AAV with significant trade protection, starting in October, when Wilson will be more than 30.5-years-old). I don't think it's true but regardless, the very slightly increased odds that it becomes a little harder to remember all the details is undeniably a tertiary benefit.
