Take Town: 2 minutes to mid Knights

NHL

A lot of big doings in the NHL this week, which is a nice change of pace after weeks of just kinda checking the Vegas Golden Knights and Dallas Stars box scores and seeing how far apart they were in the standings at the end of the night.

But we got a hell of a lot of headlines in the last several days, which I’ll get to in a minute.

First, I want to highlight something crazy that has a really good chance of happening:

In terms of actual goal difference — not the fake kind where the league uses shootout goals for reasons no one can understand — the Florida Panthers are currently sitting at plus-98 for the season.

The cap-era record for goal difference is held by the 2005-06 Ottawa Senators, who outscored opponents 312-205. That’s plus-107. They are the only team to finish their season over plus-100 in 16 years. Florida is likely to join them. But could the Cats pass them?

Well, let’s just have a look at the ol’ schedule for their last two games of the season… hm, says here: vs. Ottawa, at Montreal Canadiens.

Those are two teams they beat five times out of six and tended to put up big goal totals, and have a plus-4 goal difference. But this includes the 8-2 Ottawa win back in December, which doesn’t feel like a repeatable result.

I hope they do it. That would be sick.
