NHL levies three separate fines after a busy night at the Dept. of Player Safety offices
For one night, at least, the NHL Department of Player Safety earned their paycheques.
The money that the NHL will extract from these fines will go to the Player's Emergency Assistance Fund.
Philadelphia Flyers forward Nicolas Aubé-Kubel fined $4,633.62
The first of the NHL's three fines goes to Flyers forward Aubé-Kubel, for punching Buffalo Sabres defenceman Rasmus Dahlin near the beginning of the third period in their Monday night tilt at Wells Fargo Center.

The NHL offered up this statement on the play:
"Philadelphia Flyers forward Nicolas Aube-Kubel has been fined $4,633.62, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for roughing Buffalo Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin during NHL Game No. 37 in Philadelphia on Monday, Jan. 18, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
"The incident occurred at 17:58 of the third period. Aube-Kubel was assessed a double-minor penalty for high-sticking."
Vancouver Canucks centre Elias Pettersson assessed a $3,987.07 fine
Next up, the NHL Department of Player Safety levied a $3,987.00 fine at Canucks centre Elias Pettersson's expense.
Pettersson took a lumberjack's swing with his stick at Sean Monahan near the end of the second period of Monday night's Canucks-Flames game at the Scotiabank Saddledome and was immediately called for a two-minute slashing minor. Today? The NHL's disciplinary measures are striking at his wallet.
Pettersson was called for a high-stick on the play at the end of the second period.

Here's the clip. Was a high slash to the chest. https://t.co/WLDd1drgbn pic.twitter.com/ZykCeheSvs
The NHL's statement on the play goes as follows:
"Vancouver Canucks forward Elias Pettersson has been fined $3,987.07, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for slashing Calgary Flames forward Sean Monahan during NHL Game No. 42 in Calgary on Monday, Jan. 18, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
"The incident occurred at 18:06 of the second period. Pettersson was assessed a minor penalty for high-sticking."
It's been a tough start to the season for Pettersson, who only has one point to show for the Canucks first four outings, a dispiriting 5-2 loss to the Flames last night among them.
Minnesota Wild defenceman Greg Pateryn suffers a $5,000.00 fine
Last, but absolutely not least, the NHL reached into Pateryn's wallet and took $5,000.00 for themselves, the maximum amount allowable under the current collective bargaining agreement.
The incident occurred as the Wild goaltender covered the puck for a face-off near the middle of the first period. As a melee ensued around Minnesota's crease, Pateryn took it upon himself to crosscheck Anaheim Ducks forward Sonny Milano square in the face. That's a no-no.
Here's the cross-check by Greg Pateryn to the face of Milano last night in Anaheim. Some saying they cannot find the replay at 14:19, it is actually at 5:41 (league calculates elapsed time).

I believe Jordan Greenway was penalized by mistake https://t.co/6B91bnnYQ2 pic.twitter.com/EatSobc7g0
The NHL released a statement on the incident, and it reads thusly:
"Minnesota Wild defenseman Greg Pateryn has been fined $5,000, the maximum allowable under the Collective Bargaining Agreement, for cross-checking Anaheim Ducks forward Sonny Milano during NHL Game No. 45 in Anaheim on Monday, Jan. 18, the National Hockey League’s Department of Player Safety announced today.
"The incident occurred at 14:19 of the first period."
The Ducks got the last laugh, as John Gibson shut the Wild out en route to a 1-0 victory.
