MacKenzie Weegar is the Most Underrated Defenceman in the NHL

We often hear about players like Jonas BrodinJaccob Slavin, and Mattias Ekholm who do the thankless defensive work that allows their offensively gifted partners to thrive and take risks, but it's a courtesy that's not yet been extended to Florida Panthers defenceman MacKenzie Weegar.

It's strange because you would think that a top-pairing defenceman on a Stanley Cup contender with the best defensive numbers in the NHL would be renowned across the league, celebrated by fans and media alike, right?

Weegar has always slipped under the radar though. He didn't even make it to the Canadian Hockey League until after he had gone undrafted, joining the Halifax Mooseheads as an 18-year-old. He picked a pretty good year to hop on board (2013), enjoying a rookie season with arguably the greatest team
