It’s just about a dead heat for the pole position in the ultra-competitive Calder Trophy race between Cale Makar and Quinn Hughes. One could make a compelling case for either first-year rearguard as the league’s most proficient rookie.

At least, one without a dog in this fight might assume as much. A cursory glance at Hockey Twitter would reveal artillery shells falling on either side of the line as Colorado and Vancouver (somehow Buffalo, too) lob shots back-and-forth at one another’s defensive positions.
