Film Room: How high-flying Andrew Basha became one of the 2024 NHL Draft's most exciting prospects

NHL Prospects

Carrying the puck is what Andrew Basha does best.

Stickhandling as fast as he strides, the Medicine Hat Tigers winger carves his way through opposing defenders. His feet skim the ice as he weaves east and west in search of a way to enter the offensive zone.

Thanks to a stable upper body, the puck stays glued to his stick as he shifts around defensive sticks and cuts right into defenders' space. His bottom arm occasionally extends to shield possession, and he strides through contact to free himself.

There are more graceful skaters in the draft than Basha, but few who are more shifty and explosive. He accelerates on his very first touch of the puck, catching defenders off-guard and driving through before they can react, and then slows down as he enters the offensive zone to open up plays.
