Standout performances at the 2022 World Junior A Challenge

NHL Prospect Report

CORNWALL, Ontario – Few events can match the World Junior A Challenge as a draw for NHL scouts and executives. It's an annual tournament that pits the best U19 talent from the Junior A circuit against each other, many of which are first-time draft-eligible skaters, in a highly competitive, high-stakes setting.

It may only be one tournament, but it's a good early-season projection barometer for some of these players. In many cases, they'll face a heightened level of competition relative to their usual surroundings, and seeing whether they sink or swim is a critical part of their evaluation. For others, it's a first look at how they respond to the smaller North American ice.

What we looked for above all else in this tournament is adaptability. The best prospects shine no matter the circumstances. They can shape their game to respond to new challenges and find ways to contribute to their team’s success.

Below, you will find our evaluation of the play of many of the tournament’s top prospects, draft-eligible and drafted ones, from Otto Stenberg to Sam Rinzel.
