NCAA hockey season preview: Top-10 candidates for the Hobey, Richter, and Taylor awards

One of the most exciting things to watch as the NCAA hockey season develops is who will end up competing for the major awards at the end of the season.

While the NHL has several awards for all sorts of things, there are just three significant awards given for on-ice play in college hockey: the Hobey Baker Award for the nation's most outstanding player, the Mike Richter Award for the best goalie, and the Tim Taylor Award for the top freshman.

As you might imagine, especially as more elite young players come to the NCAA, there is a growing amount of crossover in all three awards. A freshman won the Hobey Baker and Tim Taylor awards last season, and two years before that, a goalie won the Hobey for the first time in more than 20 years (but correctly did not win the Richter).
