Fantasy Focus: Mining the waiver wire on April 4

Fantasy Hockey

With a new week of fantasy hockey just getting started, we're here to get you off on the right foot with a few suggestions from the waiver wire.

If you’ve read any of my weekly Waiver Wire articles or have any fantasy hockey experience, then you already know the importance of working the waiver wire -- especially during a season like this one where we’re faced with a constant stream of players sitting out for COVID-19 or another injury.

Every year we see players who were unheralded, underappreciate, and underrepresented on draft day come out of the shoot hot and pay dividends for those who were fast enough to scoop them up. Some of those players fall back down to earth and end up back in the heap for anyone to take a stab at. Others continue to defy preseason expectations and turn into tangible pieces capable of helping your team charge toward the fantasy playoffs.

However, by this point in the season, we have a very clear idea of who is doing what and who is playing where. But there are always surprises and guys suddenly seeing improved deployment opportunities. The key is to predict who and when to nab to catch lightning in a bottle.

As we do every week, I'll explore some candidates that are owned in fewer than half of Fantrax leagues at the time of writing. This week, there are a host of squads with four games on the schedule. A few of them have easier opponents, a few others are transitioning in new talent post-deadline. There are moving parts in flux, which makes it just that much more fun.
