Fantasy Focus: Mining the Waiver Wire for the hidden gems

Here we go again.

We are searching for under-appreciated targets on the waiver wire that can help you in the next matchup and maybe even beyond. This is a challenging endeavour - because anyone with a pulse can search for who was hot last week and go and grab them. And that could work! Hot streaks have a habit of stacking up. But the more impressive avenue is to sniff out the player who is about to pop off.

That takes skill. Which I’m hoping to gift to you here.

As a reminder, the players highlighted in this column are rostered in fewer than half of all Fantrax leagues. I follow this rule about as close as I follow yellow lights, so depending on how much of a rush I’m in to get to my destination, I may include some players who are rostered in more Fantrax leagues but less in Yahoo or ESPN.
