Around the AHL: Alex Galchenyuk debuts for Toronto Marlies in first career AHL game

Six days shy of a full calendar year from their last home date -- an eight-game road trip through Western Canada later -- the Toronto Marlies finally returned to home ice this week.

The Marlies also had veteran Alex Galchenyuk in the home opener for his first-ever AHL game. The parent Toronto Maple Leafs acquired him from the Carolina Hurricanes last month and assigned him to the Marlies this past weekend.

“I mean, we're gonna have an expectation of him doing a lot of reps and gaining game experience,” head coach Greg Moore said of Galchenyuk. “So just getting him to feel out the process for himself and get comfortable with game timing and game speed again.”

Galchenyuk is on his sixth NHL organization since leaving the Montréal Canadiens in 2018, but Moore is leaving the past in the past.
