Winners, losers, and big takeaways from the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft

Well, wasn't that fun? It took almost four hours, but we eventually got through the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft.

There were trades – lots of them, though none that involved NHL players. Surprises from about the third pick on. And hey, this is an entertainment product, so let's give a shoutout to the setup in Vegas, which made for excellent tv viewing and what I'm sure was an even better live environment.

They certainly gave us a lot to talk about, so let's look at some of the winners, losers, and big takeaways from the first round of this year's draft.
