Scout’s Notebook: 3 small-role prospects poised for breakouts

Most notable draft-eligible prospects find themselves playing big roles in their age group. Generally, prospects have to score in their draft year to become draft picks. The more they score, generally, the better their odds.

But not every player is afforded such an opportunity. Sometimes, prospects play depth roles on teams filled with older, more experienced talent. Others have one or two significant flaws that prevent a coaching staff from giving them more minutes, but the rest of their skill set could shine with more refinement.

Here, we’re looking at three prospects who don’t have ice time in their favour: Garrett BrownBrody Crane and Marcus Nguyen. All three could become NHL draft picks, and all three will likely make an appearance on the Elite Prospects' final draft board.
