Scout’s Notebook: Evaluating the USNTDP's blue line, led by Seamus Casey, Ryan Chesley, and Lane Hutson

2022 NHL Entry Draft

The U.S National Team Development Program is known for its ability to produce high-end defensive talents. The program has had at least one of their blueliners go inside the first-round at the NHL draft every year since 2018: Quinn Hughes at seventh overall to the Vancouver Canucks and K'Andre Miller at 22nd overall to the New York Rangers, Cam York at 14th overall to the Philadelphia Flyers, Jake Sanderson at fifth overall to the Ottawa Senators, and Luke Hughes at fourth overall to the New Jersey Devils.

This year's group of USNTDP defencemen isn't as strong as those of previous years, though. It doesn't have the same potential future star to offer. There are, however, a few players who could keep the Program's streak of first-round appearances intact in Ryan Chesley and Seamus Casey.
