From Northeastern to the Southwest: Diving into 2022 draft prospect T.J. Semptimphelter's transfer gamble

Goaltending depth charts are always fascinating situations to unpack, and the NCAA is no different.

Some collegiate programs suffer from what can only be described as goaltending deserts. Whether due to depth chart depletions caused by early graduations or due to underperformance caused by injuries or development setbacks, schools occasionally end up with tandems that struggle to hit statistical benchmark averages and allow just a few too many goals per game over entire seasons.

Last year, Northeastern and Arizona State found themselves on opposite ends of that spectrum. 

Northeastern was gifted with a pair of high performers in net, watching as freshman T.J. Semptimphelter seamlessly slotted in for star starter Devon Levi during the latter’s absence for the 2022 Winter Olympics in Beijing. 

Arizona State, on the other hand, was witness to a mediocre jump by transfer goaltender Ben Kraws, who all but usurped New Jersey Devils prospect Cole Brady in the wake of an underwhelming showing by the NHL prospect.

Next year, though, Northeastern will be sharing the wealth.
