Despite the advancements in video scouting, and the new globally-connected world we live in, scouting European players has remained something of market inefficiency in the NHL. Sure, the tip-top players are always found and are usually finding minutes among men in a top professional league. 

However, scouting the junior circuits has been slower to maturate. It’s been coming along in recent years, but we’re still in a world where an NHL team will have two or three scouts for a region like Western Canada and one single solitary scout for all of Finland. Or one scout for Slovakia, Czechia and any other smaller, non-traditional market nearby. 

It means players can slip under the radar. Or be misrepresented in their talent level or projection.
